Affton School District Board of Education approved the hiring of Dr. Christopher R. McGee as Executive Director of Academic and Student Services for the 2018-2019 school year.
Within this position, McGee will provide leadership, management, and coordination of assessment, data analysis, curriculum, and professional development systems, while also executing key tasks associated with federal programs and student services.
“Chris comes to us with passion and a desire to impact education that aligns with our mission, vision, core values, and strategic plan. We are excited about bringing his strong collaborative spirit and desire to innovate for kids to Affton,” said Dr. Travis Bracht, current assistant superintendent. “He brings not only his experience, but the experience, resources, and ideas of a deep professional learning network to our schools.”
McGee’s considerable experience in school administration includes his role as assistant principal in the Rockwood School District since 2016, and as assistant principal in the Webster Groves School District for two years prior. He also has four years experience as a curriculum coordinator in Webster Groves.
“I am extremely excited about the direction in which Affton School District is moving. Students are immersed in engaging and authentic experiences at all grade levels,” said McGee. “I’m honored to have the opportunity to carry on the great work that Stephanie True has set into motion, and move us forward toward new, innovative possibilities. I look forward to working alongside Affton’s exceptional educators and charting a path toward realizing our strategic plan.”
In addition to his administrative experience, McGee taught high school and middle school science for 11 years. He is the CEO of Connected Learning, LLC, and is the co-founder of EdCampSTL. He has been recognized as an Apple Distinguished Educator, a Google Certified Innovator, and a Phi Delta Kappa Emerging Leader. McGee earned a bachelor of arts in biology and secondary education at Webster University in St. Louis, Mo., a master of arts in educational administration from Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Mo., and a doctorate in educational leadership from Maryville University in St. Louis, Mo.
Chris and his wife, Patty, an assistant professor of physical therapy and orthopaedic surgery at Washington University in St. Louis, live in Glendale and have two daughters, Isabela, 4, and Eliana, 2.
McGee will begin serving as Executive Director of Academic and Student Services on July 1 following the retirement of Stephanie True, current Director of Instructional Programs at Affton School District.
